Born in 1973, Paul Spangler is from Lawrenceville, IL. He developed an early interest in art while in high school but it was not until college that it became his passion. He attended Vincennes University majoring in Commercial Art & Design which included studies in illustration, figure drawing, and logo design. Spangler works primarily in pencil and watercolor. His favorite subjects are People, Landscapes, Aviation, and Automobiles. Spangler considers himself a realist in the traditional sense. "I try to reach beyond just getting a likeness in a portrait by breathing life into the subject." Some of his favorite artists and illustrators are John Singer Sargent, Thomas Eakins, Norman Rockwell, and Dru Struzan. Paul has entered several art competitions in Lawrence, Crawford, and Knox Counties and has won several awards for his pencil drawings. A number of his works are in private collections. He also has begun teaching workshops and marketing prints of his artwork locally. Spangler's work is on display at Pioneer Winery and The Village Framery both located in Palestine, IL and at Blue Moon Gallery & Studios in Vincennes, IN.
